Summary Post: France (Southern)
May 9th, 2012 by DC
Another post wrapping up a country. I’ll do France in two parts (as I’m going back in a few weeks). Here’s the Southern section.
This was the time I was really settling into the ride, and getting fit. Weather-wise it was quite a mix with great sunny days further south, strong headwinds riding up the Rhone, and rain and snow at the end in the alps.
- Days in country: 19
- Days riding: 14
- Kilometres ridden: 936 km (longest day 125km into a headwind)
- Running total (nearest 10km): 1140km
- Accom cost: ~209 Euro (expensive hostels for rest days)
- Other costs: ~283 Euro (bumped considerably by touristy things (Carcassonne and Auguille du Midi) and buying new gloves)
- Flats: 1 (front)
- Amount of snow I woke to in Chamonix: 10cm
- Favourite food/drink: Baguettes! Best strapped to the back of the bike and eaten whilst riding by reaching back and ripping a bit off.
- 8 nights in campgrounds, 6 nights in a hostel and 6 nights with Warmshowers hosts/workmates friends parents.
- Favourite photo: Setting sun. This was at the end of a long day, and I stayed at a great campsite.
